Musicals
There is no better way of understanding how musicals “work” than creating one yourself! A musical is more than just a play, it is a complete artistic project in which various skills and talents are interwoven. It is precisely this interweaving of different skills that is making the Musicals course at Pionirski dom increasingly popular. As well as acting, singing and dancing, we will explore the art of writing a script and lyrics for songs, set design and costume design, and then at the end combine all these elements into a dazzling story that will come alive onstage.
Musicals are one of the most popular and diverse artistic genres because they incorporate all aspects of the theatrical and musical arts. They combine acting, which allows a story to be told, singing, which expresses emotions, and dance, which gives movement and energy to the spectacle. Dazzling costumes and imaginative scenery create a visual feast that carries spectators into another world. Occasionally a dog might wander onstage, adding an element of surprise and earning extra goodwill from the audience.
Getting to know the elements of a musical
Over the course of a year-long workshop, participants will get to know all the elements of a musical and together create a totally original performance. This includes writing the script and song lyrics, exploring the basics of composing music and designing the choreography. They will participate in the construction of scenery and try their hand at sewing or decorating costumes. Finally, all this will be combined into a wonderful performance on stage.
As the workshop goes on, participants will develop various skills such as proper vocal warm-up and singing techniques, understanding vocal interpretation and performing with a microphone. They will also improve their acting skills and their ability to express emotions through dialogue and song and learn the dance moves and choreography that are intertwined with the performance. They will learn about the process of set design and costume design and learn how to transform ideas into real elements on the stage.
Stimulating creativity, cooperation and teamwork
The workshop does not only stimulate creativity, it also encourages cooperation and teamwork, since a musical is a collective artistic endeavour in which every individual contributes their part to the whole. It will include elements of improvisation, exploring personal ideas and adapting to individual abilities and preferences. The final product will be not just a performance but an unforgettable experience that will enrich participants with new skills, confidence and the joy of creation.
