The Preparation for SAT in Slovene, Year 9 programme is aimed at 9th graders who will take the compulsory SAT in Slovene in the current year and want to consolidate and improve their knowledge.

The course provides theoretical revision and consolidation of the grammar and literature chapters in the scope of the SAT through a variety of exercises. The programme is based on the catalogue of skills and the requirements of the SAT. It includes systematic training in two fundamental language skills in particular: reading comprehension and written expression. Although the SAT does not test listening comprehension and oral communication in Grade 9, the pupil encounters these two fundamental language skills more indirectly, in practice, through communication with classmates and the teacher.
The pupil repeats the prescribed material, deepens his/her knowledge and, through problem solving, practises solving linguistic problems and expressing himself/herself (in writing) in response to questions posed in language, literary theory and literature. The exercises and tasks are typical of those in the SAT; the programme includes working with past SAT tests.

Course flexibility and individualised approach
The course programme is designed to cover all the areas tested by the SAT in an even way, but remains flexible, as the actual distribution of time across the individual units is adapted to the needs and preferences of the students. This individualised approach is made possible by small group sizes, which allow for a more personalised approach and a greater focus on the specific challenges faced by the course participants.
The longer programme consists of 40 school hours (i.e. 20 sessions of 90 min), which allows for gradual and systematic preparation over a longer period (i.e. approximately half a school year). This way of working helps students to avoid the tension, confusion and rush of the run-up to the SAT, as they have enough time to consolidate their knowledge and practise their writing skills in depth. At the same time, participation in the course also has an impact on regular Slovene lessons, as students can demonstrate their acquired knowledge and new skills on an ongoing basis and thus improve their Slovene grades (which is also reflected in their points total for secondary school entry).
There is also the possibility of individual (or paired) lessons to prepare for the SAT. The exact scope, duration and content are a matter of agreement but are primarily based on the needs of the student. This form of preparation allows the teacher to focus even more on the individual’s weaker areas and needs. The teacher can help the student to develop specific skills, build on their knowledge and guide them in solving specific types of exercises.
