Dance for children

The fantasy world of little children is an endless source of inspiration. In a playful way, it connects with real-life moments, which through their non-verbal expression leads to the creation of beautiful dance stories. Children can step into the world of movement from a very early age via our Dance for children – Kalčki group. They are introduced to basic movement structures, which form the foundation of their dance development. When they enter primary school, they begin learning more advanced dance concepts, such as composition, improvisation, spatial awareness and choreography, which allows them to gradually develop their creativity and technical skills.

Particular emphasis is placed on the process of creating sequences of movement, where children build on technical elements with their own unique dance interpretation. The complexity of expression is adapted to their development, allowing them to progress to more complex choreographies and projects. Our dance groups participate in a variety of activities, from creating independent dance performances to preparing for dance competitions and performing at regional, national and international meetings and festivals, both in Slovenia and abroad. Such projects not only enhance technical and artistic skills, they foster collaboration, perseverance and a love for the art of dance.

Dance has numerous benefits

Learning dance offers children a wide range of benefits, since it combines physical, emotional, cognitive and social development. At the physical level, it helps improve motor skills, balance, coordination and posture, while also enhancing body awareness and improving fitness. Children get to know their bodies through movement, developing flexibility and endurance, which has a positive impact on their overall health.

Dance also has an important emotional dimension, since it allows us to express feelings and emotions in a creative way, thereby promoting inner balance and relaxation. At the same time, children gain self-confidence, as through the process of learning, creating and performing they learn to overcome fears and strengthen their sense of self-worth. Every mastered choreography and successful performance allows them to take pride in their achievements.

From the cognitive point of view, dance stimulates memory, concentration and problem-solving. Learning steps, rhythm and sequences of movement teaches children how to connect different elements into a cohesive whole. At the same time, it encourages creativity, since children develop their own ideas and personal interpretation of movement. Music and rhythm teach them structured thinking and strengthen their aesthetic sense.

The social aspect of learning to dance is important for connecting with others. Participation in a group encourages mutual support, respect and teamwork, while performing in front of an audience strengthens their self-confidence and ability to handle public situations. Through dance, children also explore different cultures, music and artistic styles, which enriches their understanding of the world and encourages openness to diversity.
