Preparation for the National Assessment of Knowledge in English – Year 9
The Preparation for the National Assessment of Knowledge in English programme is designed for year 9 students who want to consolidate their English skills, address any gaps in their knowledge, and prepare for the National Assessment of Knowledge in a focused way and without unnecessary stress.
The Preparation for the National Assessment of Knowledge in English programme is intended for year 9 students who will take the National Assessment of Knowledge in English as their third subject during the current school year and who want to systematically consolidate and improve their knowledge. The programme is designed around the content and requirements of the National Assessment of Knowledge.
During the 20-hour preparation course, students develop their language skills, consolidate their vocabulary and grammar, and practise reading comprehension and writing. Through a variety of exercises, they become familiar with the different types of tasks they may encounter in the National Assessment of Knowledge in English. The programme also includes completing and analysing tasks from previous National Assessments of Knowledge.
Particular emphasis is placed on effective task-solving strategies. Students learn to read instructions carefully, identify key information in texts, draw conclusions from context, and avoid common mistakes. In written expression, they practise the appropriate use of vocabulary and grammatical structures while developing greater accuracy, independence and confidence in using English.
Course flexibility and an individualised approach
The programme is designed to systematically cover the areas assessed in the National Assessment of Knowledge in English, while the content and pace of the lessons are adapted to the needs of the participants. Small groups allow for a more personalised approach, enabling the teacher to devote more time to the areas and types of tasks that individual students find most challenging.
The programme consists of 20 lessons and takes place once a week, with each lesson being two school hours. The preparation course begins in November, allowing students to consolidate their knowledge gradually and systematically over a longer period. The knowledge and language skills they develop are also beneficial for their regular English lessons at school.
Benefits of the Preparation for the National Assessment of Knowledge in English programme
The benefits of the programme come from the experience of the teachers, small group sizes and individualised approach. Students consolidate their knowledge using practical materials, become familiar with different types of tasks, and develop strategies for completing them effectively.
By combining language consolidation, practical exercises and tasks from previous National Assessments of Knowledge, students develop greater independence and accuracy and prepare for the National Assessment of Knowledge in English as their third subject in a gradual and systematic way.
