Slovene as a foreign language (teenagers and adults)
For foreigners living in Slovenia, there are many advantages to knowing Slovene that have a significant impact on their lives and integration in a new environment. Language is a key tool for easier integration into society. Not only does it facilitate basic communication, it allows a deeper understanding of the culture, traditions and values of the country they are living in. Knowing the language allows foreigners to build connections with the local population, which strengthens interpersonal relations and a feeling of belonging. At Pionirski dom we offer a Slovene as a foreign language (teenagers and adults) course.
For children and teenagers, knowing Slovene is essential for successful participation in education. Understanding the material, participating in classroom activities and forming friendships with peers become much easier once language barriers are overcome. Slovene not only enables them to achieve better results at school, it allows full integration in the school environment, where they can develop both academically and socially. The language also opens new doors for adults. It gives them more confidence to face everyday tasks such as sorting out documents, seeing a doctor or simply going shopping. Not only that, but knowing Slovene significantly increases their chances of employment, given that many employers expect basic or advanced knowledge of the language. Knowledge of Slovene gives foreigners more opportunities for career development and improves their quality of life.
Proficiency in Slovene also contributes to personal growth. Learning a new language enhances mental agility, boosts self-confidence and develops communication skills that are valuable in both professional and personal life. Knowing a language also allows better understanding of the local environment – from road signs and notices in public spaces to keeping up with the news and cultural events.
Slovene is a bridge that connects
For foreigners in Slovenia, Slovene is not just a language, it is a bridge connecting different worlds. By adopting the language, foreigners also adopt the space that they can call their second home. Knowing Slovene is thus the key to a successful and full life in Slovenia.
At Pionirski dom you can start learning Slovene as a complete beginner or join a more advanced group adapted to your level of proficiency. The courses give equal focus to all four key language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. By honing their language skills in a friendly and stimulating environment, participants will be able to communicate more easily in their everyday lives and progress more confidently in their school or other educational obligations. Learners who have already mastered the basics can begin preparing for international Slovene language exams. This allows them to formally certify their proficiency and continue to build on it.
