Individual singing lessons, 45 minutes a week

The focus of this course of individual singing lessons (45 minutes a week) is on the holistic development of musical skills and artistic expression. In addition to developing their musicality, participants practise correct breathing and singing technique. This allows them to have greater control over their vocal performance and to express a range of emotional and musical nuances. For younger singers, the focus is on singing children’s songs and folk songs, which help them develop a sense of melody, rhythm and textual interpretation. Older participants gradually move on to learning and performing popular songs, both Slovene and foreign, which allows for a diverse repertoire and caters to their interests and musical tastes.

The instructor encourages an understanding of the basics of music theory throughout the learning process, which contributes to a better understanding of song structure and musical principles. There is also an emphasis on encouraging creativity, since participants develop their own artistic expression by writing their own vocal lines and lyrics. This approach builds confidence in creating and performing music.

An opportunity to perform in public

Opportunities to perform in public are an important part of the learning process, since they allow participants to gain experience and overcome stage fright. Participants have the opportunity to demonstrate their achievements to the public at Pionirski dom events (e.g. the Music Festival, the Be A Writer literary competition, final events organised by the culture department and the musicians’ final concert). This helps them build confidence, develop their musical talent and prepare themselves for further musical challenges.

Learning to sing brings numerous benefits, as it has a positive impact on the body, mind and emotions. Singing strengthens the respiratory system, improves posture and promotes stress relief, because singing releases happiness hormones like endorphins. At the same time, it develops musical and cognitive abilities, such as understanding rhythm, melody and intonation and improving memory, which has a positive effect on brain functions. Singing builds self-confidence, improves the ability to express emotions and develops social skills, since it often involves performing in public or being part of a musical group. Learning to sing thus not only builds musical talent, it enriches overall personal growth.
