Workshops for primary school theatre group leaders

Theatre at Pionirski dom is characterised by relaxed communication, boundless imagination, playfulness, freedom of expression, fun and creative problem-solving and mutual support. Workshops for primary school theatre group leaders are an opportunity to learn about all the key elements needed to create a theatrical performance. They are led by the acclaimed dramaturge Staša Prah.

The workshops offer an insight into the entire process of creating a theatrical performance, with a particular focus on the following aspects:

  • Selection of text and analysis: We will learn how to choose a suitable text. We will analyse it and identify key messages and motifs.
  • Allocation of roles and adaptation of the text: We will explore how to adapt a text to the needs of the group and individual performers and how to allocate roles effectively.
  • Exploring set design solutions: The emphasis will be on developing innovative set design ideas that support the subject of the performance and create a suitable visual environment.
  • Creating a comprehensive vision for the performance: We will develop the aesthetic concept of the production, incorporating visual, sound and emotional components.
  • Preparation of the programme: We will learn how to design a theatre programme, which serves as accompanying material for the audience and presents the key elements of the production.

Purpose and aim of the workshops

The workshops draw our attention to the importance of thorough preparations and deep understanding of the material, in order to be able to tackle the staging in a thoughtful and effective manner. The emphasis will be on building an associative world around the selected text or theme. Participants will explore how to use associations and visual imagery to shape an original context that supports the story and gives it freshness.

A critical approach to theatrical creativity

The key question always raised when theatrical art is being created is: What is the purpose, sense or aim of staging a particular story? We will work on developing critical distance from the selected content and finding what it is that most attracts us in the story or theme. In this way we will develop a unique approach to storytelling that will present the story in a fresh and different manner.

Practical starting points for your production

The workshops offer useful starting points for everyone wishing to create their own theatrical production. Participants will be involved in:

  • designing the basic concept of the performance,
  • selecting the text,
  • casting,
  • developing the aesthetic concept of the production.

Through this process, we will discover how to transform a chosen story, theme or idea into a theatrical experience that is not only technically feasible but aesthetically and emotionally convincing. The aim of the workshops is to enable participants to find their own creative vision and transfer it successfully to the stage.
