Workshop participants familiarise themselves with traditional painting techniques, cultivate creative and abstract thinking and analyse their own artistic results.
BEGINNERS
A painting is a plane on which an artist uses techniques and methods to transfer the three-dimensional world to a two-dimensional surface. It is also important for the artist to master various spatial cues that allow them to represent the depicted world or subject in a convincing manner. Workshop participants familiarise themselves with traditional painting techniques, cultivate creative and abstract thinking and analyse their results. Painting, with its diverse means of expression, takes participants from the basics of drawing and composition design to abstract colourful artistic creations.
The painting course covers a broad range of topics, from the basics of drawing, sighting and the principles of composition in the pictorial field, to theoretical understanding of the rules of colour composition. In addition to introducing theoretical knowledge into artistic concepts, part of the course is dedicated to exploring various painting techniques – acrylic painting, preparing egg tempera, watercolour and gouache. From the technical point of view, the course also includes an introduction to the preparation of surfaces – panel painting, painting on paper and painting on canvas.
The workshop places particular emphasis on observing the world we live in and wish to transfer into an artistic work. Painting at Pionirski dom represents exploration of a broad field of artistic expression, where knowledge and experience are built on and complemented by experimentation, either with a paintbrush or with other materials.
The beginners course is based on drawing and simple geometric bodies. Starting with a cube, participants go on to build a chair, a table and other objects frequently depicted in paintings from the history of art. We continue with the construction of an ellipse, to which we then add fabrics before concluding the year with a still life study.
ADVANCED
Painting is probably one of the first creative fields we associate with the idea of art. In the advanced painting course at Pionirski dom, the idea of the painting as a “window on the world” is supported by references and models from art history. Participants learn about realism, impressionism and expressionism. All these stylistic variations are supported by brief lectures and visual material from the rich history of art, right up to contemporary artistic practices. Simple still lifes begin to be complemented by floral arrangements, while with more complex forms and several years of experience, we attempt to enhance still lifes and other subjects by drawing and painting portraits and even a nude.
The advanced painting course is a continuation of the previous course, where the picture is still on a two-dimensional support. New materials are added to the experiences of the beginners course, with participants attempting to create repetitions of the same subjects using new principles and methods. The formal exploration of painting is complemented by further theoretical study, which helps participants not only when creating their own works but also when analysing works both at the formal level and in terms of content, where participants encounter their own translation of a story and idea to the pictorial surface.
The course is based on drawing, to which colour is added as the course progresses. Participants constantly strive to develop their own sensibilities and perceptions in the sphere of art and can use this development when observing, viewing and interpreting artworks in institutional contexts.
